As someone who randomly stumbled upon your blog and as someone who lives there take this for what it's worth but Portland is a great place to live. You get to experience all four seasons and you're a stones throw away from the mountain, beach, or desert. A fairly diverse, and relatively intelligent population also help make it an enjoyable place to live. Just my $.02.
