"You're only as tall as your heart will let you be, and you're only as small as the world will make you seem. When the going gets rough and you feel like you will fall, just look on the bright side: you're roughly six feet tall." ~Never Shout Never, On the Brightside

Saturday before Thanksgiving
I had such high hopes of getting up early and getting stuff done. Instead, I slept until 9 and stayed in bed to stay warm until 10. Such is the life of a grad student. I did enjoy my time to myself, but I really feel guilty now for not being more productive. I will go see the new Hunger Games movie guilt free and then get to working. :) It will be glorious.

Less than two weeks before Thanksgiving
Don't tell me that. Seriously.
Because I will slack. Big time.
I am watching Bye Bye Birdie on TV currently. It's 1:25 am on a Sunday Morning.
I have spent the last 10 hours reading, analyzing language, SALTING, and reading my VOICE DISORDERS TEXTBOOK. I think I have deserved a change to veg out, but no, I have been setting up a blog for my ECE students and their children's lit reviews.
I long to be in Atlanta with family and Cameron's family, but I am here. Two weeks and I will be celebrating. But until then I deal. With life. ECE folks that will change the world. Speech therapy that will separate us from the animals. OK State Speech therapy will save the world. One child/adult at a time. And I am a small part of it. Love you all!

master's degree
My partner decided to go back to school
She's doing a Masters Degree
Have you ever been involved with a person
Who studies psychotherapy?
At first I thought, hey this could work really well
I'll get counseling free every day
But little did little old me ever picture
The price I was going to pay
It's not just "Good morning", it's "How are you feeling?"
I wish you could verbalize more
You're such a performer, except when we're sharing
And that's when your feet are halfway out the door
You're mad at your parents, you don't show your anger
You take geographical cures
You tell me you love me, but not very often
So how can I ever be sure?"
That's what it's like when analysis strikes
But you know that there's more to the story
For every complaint or frustration I have
At least two other moments of glory
She shows me that I can have love in my life
That is real, and steady, and trusting
And occasionally allows me the patience I need
While my skeptical heart is adjusting
So whenever my dread and my terror come up
And relationship fills me with such fright
She's there to remind me that fear is just simply
Forgetting that everything's alright
Forgetting that everything's really all right
Without all the pushing and shoving
As time passes that's just the price that you pay
It's an increase in the "Cost of Loving"
My partner decided to go back to school
It's giving us lots to discuss
If Purple Hearts are ever given to couples
I hope that they give one to us

Definitely what I thought of when driving into Oklahoma!
"Wide Open Spaces"
Who doesn't know what I'm talking about
Who's never left home, who's never struck out
To find a dream and a life of their own
A place in the clouds, a foundation of stone
Many precede and many will follow
A young girl's dream no longer hollow
It takes the shape of a place out west
But what it holds for her, she hasn't yet guessed
[Chorus:]
She needs wide open spaces
Room to make her big mistakes
She needs new faces
She knows the high stakes
She traveled this road as a child
Wide eyed and grinning, she never tired
But now she won't be coming back with the rest
If these are life's lessons, she'll take this test
[Repeat Chorus]
She knows the high stakes
As her folks drive away, her dad yells, "Check the oil!"
Mom stares out the window and says, "I'm leaving my girl"
She said, "It didn't seem like that long ago"
When she stood there and let her own folks know
[Repeat Chorus]
She knows the highest stakes
She knows the highest stakes
She knows the highest stakes
She knows the highest stakes
Who's never left home, who's never struck out
To find a dream and a life of their own
A place in the clouds, a foundation of stone
Many precede and many will follow
A young girl's dream no longer hollow
It takes the shape of a place out west

Dear class of 2014
What you don't know is...I was you, 10 years ago. You all are so eager to capture your world and take it by storm, and I love it. What you don't know it that you are scared. You are scared because this is life. You are about to take the world, and its children, by storm. You are about to rock the world's Pre-K through 2nd graders by storm. I know, because I was you exactly 10 years ago. 10 years ago I was in your very shoes, ready to take on my first class of 1st graders. I was ready to rock their very world. What I didn't know is that the world is a very scary place. I might have passed my own student teaching experience. I might have even survived my first teaching placement. But what I want you to know is that you are a very sacred individual. You deserve to be loved by you and you first. No matter what or where you end up teaching. You are worthy of helping those you help. In Oklahoma or wherever you end up. Please don't lose touch and please deem yourself worthy of your time. I have been given a position of authority, and I don't really know why but I will use it to my advantage in this medium. You are all worthy individuals. I sit here with the benefit of 10 years knowledge in the "Real World." Ten years ago I would have begged for the knowledge I have now. Use your position as one to further the advances in the field of early childhood education. You are in the supreme position to make changes in the system. Use your power for good. BE THE CHANGE YOU WISH TO SEE IN THE WORLD!
YOUR FRIEND,
JENN
