It's ZERO degrees outside
Which means I'm not going anywhere, anytime soon, until I have to. That's right, I did go out today, to get some tea, a new toothbrush and a few other necessities...but that was before I learned how very cold it was outside. I'm back in the Twin Cities, unhappily though. I don't know how I made it this long in this climate. I was going to workout tonight, but it looks like a Yoga video is in store for tonight, and maybe a home facial. That's right, this blog has become decidedly boring. When you vow to blog everyday day, there is not really a whole lot exciting that you can blog about that is going to be interesting to all of my audiences. Yes, I go back to school (work) on Monday. No, I'm not excited about it. Yes, I'm listening to Prairie Home tonight and it's a looking back show, which means nothing new. Yes, I'm excited to kick back and RELAX BY MY SELF on Saturday night. I only wish the weather was warmer. I am going to start a detox in a week, so maybe I'll blog about that, but maybe it will be so dull I won't have to. Let me know what you want to hear about!!!

Detox Over
Thank god and all things holy (or wholly) for that. Tonight was a housemates birthday, so I found it rather fitting that on the last day of of the detox I had pumpkin pie and lasagne. Good stuff. I forgotten how much I miss sweet carbs. And I didn't really indulge and overdo it like I usually do. I don't feel bloated or sick, just satisfied. I suppose the detox did its job. Or maybe it's all in my head. Who knows. Now if only I can keep up with that moderate attitude throughout the year.
In other news, I'm making a lot of good progress at work. I feel really good about this year, like it can be a good thing. Positive relationships with other teachers and co-workers...supportive environment. I've switched my schedule around on Mondays and Wednesdays so that I can stay for after school without going over my hours during the day so I don't have come in until 10 am!
And how cool is the Rational Number Project? I will probably end up doing another post on this sometime soon, but I'll just say that this tool is very awesome. Lots to do this sememster, and lots to learn both in school and at work (in a school) I feel like a kid and a teacher all over again.
How cool is that?

Detox, Day 5
Over the hill, as they say. Really only two more days left to go for this. Not much longer now. Today was easier, I must say. I cut a pineapple up last night as I was making more miso soup. So this morning I put the pinapple and oranges into the blender and drank that and had miso soup and an orange for lunch. I didn't feel hungry until just now, when I had a bananna and some rice milk. I don't feel like I have more energy, but I do feel better from not putting crap into my body. I'm ready for a sandwich though. I'm ready for some fish. I think I may stop a day or two early, or at least make something more substantial in day 7. Not a big deal. I still question the effectiveness of what I'm doing now.

Detox, Day 4
Today being Sunday, I found it difficult to continue with this silly little plan of eating. But alas, I did.
I woke up later, around 11pm, and had some Naked berry blend juice shortly afterward. Then, after working on the computer doing a mixture of writing/planning/prepping for the week ahead (ALC starts this week) and I had a letter to write, I found out that my roommate had made a lovely speghetti squash and tomato/tofu sauce that complimented my afternoon quite nicely. Good thing too because I was getting ready to gnaw through my fingers. This kept me quite full up until after my YOGA class, which was delightful.
I stopped by LUND's which I know I shouldn't stop by because it's the most expensive chain grocery store in the Twin Cities but it was closest to the bank and needed to pick up cash...long story short I ended up buying another Green Machine Naked Juice and a fruit cup. Such a convenient dinner. Haha. I sound like I true crazy person, no?
I also found some eggnog flavored herbal tea, caffiene free of course, that I might try later tonight.
I still want a piece of bread like its going out of style. I wonder if all this detox bit, other than making me excrete waste, is doing much good at all?
It is making me think about my eating habits, however. How much I reach for things to snack on when I'm not really hungry, what's there. What's a moderate snack or meal...like any restrictive diet will do. I wonder if it will make me binge on certain foods when it is all over, therefore defeating the purpose? Or if I will still keep the moderate attitude going after this is through and bring it to the foods we add back gradually. Hmmmmm....food for thought? No pun intendend.

Detox, Day 3 (so far)
...and a little of day 2
Day 2 ended with a yummy stir fry concoction in which we decided to add some olive oil in trace amounts to a pan of assorted veggies (mostly kale, spinach, carrots, tomatoes) and we also decided to add some brown rice because we were feeling very overloaded on citric acid and needed some grain to absorb it all. I tell you, the rice made my day.
I'm no on my third day of this silly little thing, and I can not tell you the difference it has made. I don't feel symptoms one way or the other, and I'd reather eat bread. And cheese. And yogurt.
Miso soup today was a nice change. salty seaweed concoction with TOFU! and salt! I feel better than yesterday, that's for sure!
Other things I've eaten today include two oranges, a spinach-parsley-kiwi-rice milk smoothie, lots of filtered water, and lots of baby carrots.
I need to drink more tea.
And I will be glad when this silly little detox is done. That's all. Four more days.
Oh, my bad. Die toxins die! Clean system! Eat it, toxins. go to hell.

Detox, Day 2 (so far)
Breakfast: smoothie made with frozen blueberries, frozen cranberries, fresh pears, and two tablespoons flaxseed
Throughout morning: 20 oz. filtered water with lemon
Lunch: Mixed greens with avocado, tomato, and garlic dressing; two tangerines; 10 more ounces filtered water with lemon; handful baby carrots
Today I added Organic Raw Kombucha juice from the co-op (meant for detoxifying and adding probiotics)
Snack: 1 pear
Haven't eaten dinner yet, and will probably have a cup of tea made with filtered water for that.
No real symptoms other than having to pee every half-hour. (sorry if TMI.) I thought I would have a headache much worse from detoxing from caffiene, but I really don't. It was bad on Sunday when I orginally started caffiene detox, but I can't notice it anymore.
Major cravings so far: BREAD and CHOCOLATE

Detox, Day 1
So the roommates and I, in an attempt to clean out our internals from all of that holiday eating and merriment, have decided to embark on a detox of sorts for a week to see how it goes. Fruits and Veggies, and needed supplements for functioning. I'm also detoxing from caffeine and alcohol for a week, so we shall see how that goes.
Day One, so far:
Glass of filtered water
Breakfast: Delightful smoothie made from just about every piece of fruit in our fridge. (blueberries, cranberries (frozen), kiwi, and flaxseed)
Snack: Banana, Tangerine (about an hour apart)
Lunch: Grapefruit
Snack: Cup of camomille tea
Dinner: Steamed vegetables (kale, brocolli, carrots, cabbage, spinach) and a little bit of overly spicy cabbage and beet soup prepared with way too much cayenne pepper and garlic earlier this week. Five glasses of filtered water and a cup of peach detox yogi brand tea.
So far, no serious symptoms or withdrawls. We'll see how this goes folks. We really do need a better way to prepare veggies, but we can't use oil or salt, so they were rather bland.
I'm looking forward to another smoothie tomorrow, maybe a pear/parsley/kiwi combo that comes recommended. And I think I need to bring more fruit for lunch, or maybe cut it all and make a yummy fruit salad.
Later tonight I'll do my liver detox drops with filtered water and maybe another cup of tea. I really think too that I need to eat more in the morning, because I was hungry ALL day. Later in the week we can add miso soup and plain yogurt, so maybe that will help too. And I keep thinking about the quantity of the things I'm eating, but I can and should eat more of the fruit at lunch, becuase there isn't a limit on the allowed foods.
I'm going to try to post what I eat tomorrow as well as how I feel.
Stay tuned.
